The Webstart course concentrates on the practicalities of creating a website.

Here we have added a few articles to help along the way as you begin to design sites.

Most are drawn from our own experiences in designing and running a business, the others are from things we have come across while supporting the course and others are intended to help the creativity flow.

• Web Site Hosting
  You have your site ready, all you need now is somewhere to put it. You need a host. As with many things, you have a choice.
• Design Considerations
  There are many factors to take into account when designing a Web presence. Here we\'re going to take a look at some of these factors which influence Web Site development.
• Development Planning
  It is vitally important, especially when designing at an advanced level, to pay particular attention to the whole process of Web Site Design. This means spending time with your client, and then back at the office, setting out a logical procedure for accomplishing the project. So, don't fall into the trap that inexperienced designers fall into, of just opening Notepad, or their HTML editor, and setting off, invariably without any real idea or direction.
• Copyright
  If you design, produce or write anything, copyright law applies to the end subject. You don't need to be well versed in law, but a basic understanding could potentially save you wasting a lot of time, energy and money.
• Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics
  I've just seen an advert for an estate agent in a local newspaper and in a large, bright panel in the middle of the page, are the words - Our website receives 462,000 hits per day.
• The Psychology of Colour
  What should, or could we consider when deciding the colours we use on a web site. A few things are obvious:no clashing colours, and observing business corporate colour schemes which needs to be incorporated and complemented. But should we consider the psychology of colour? Maybe we already do, but do not realise it. Consider sayings such as Green with envy or Pure as driven snow. After all, it is only the study of human reaction to colours.
• Virus Infection
  This is becoming like Groundhog Day, I’ve started writing this several times but can’t quite get what I want. It started out as a small piece on internet privacy and security, but got so large that I have abandoned the original in favour of writing a little of what can happen when you get a virus.
